- We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Research & Development professional who can turn this purpose into great products, robust formulations and scalable innovations.
- ROLE PURPOSE
- The Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager – Research & Development will be responsible for driving product development, product improvement, formulation, fortification, trials, scale-up and technical innovation across CNL's portfolio.
- The role will translate consumer needs, nutritional objectives, product concepts and business opportunities into commercially viable products that are:

- The position will work closely with Quality Assurance, Production, Procurement, Supply Chain, Sales & Marketing and Finance to take products from idea → formulation → trial → validation → commercialisation → continuous improvement.
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead new product development and existing product improvement from concept, formulation and trials through scale-up and commercialisation.
- Develop and optimise food formulations and fortified products, balancing nutrition, taste, quality, stability and cost.
- Plan and execute laboratory, pilot and factory trials, ensuring successful transfer from R&D to commercial production.
- Develop and maintain product formulations, specifications, trial reports and other technical documentation.
- Conduct sensory evaluation, shelf-life and product stability studies and translate findings into product improvements.
- Evaluate new ingredients, technologies and alternative raw materials to improve product quality, nutrition and cost efficiency.
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Procurement, Supply Chain and Commercial teams to solve technical challenges and deliver projects on time.
- Support product renovation, cost optimisation and process improvement without compromising food safety, nutritional intent or consumer experience.
- Ensure R&D activities comply with relevant food safety, regulatory and quality requirements.
- Build a structured and innovation-driven R&D approach and continuously strengthen technical capability within the team.
- Duties and Responsibilities
- Market Research & Consumer Understanding:
- Conduct market research to identify consumer needs, preferences, trends, and emerging opportunities align with the Marketing to serve our Mothers and their families with high quality, tasty and nutrition snacks and beverages.
- Monitor competitor products, ingredients, packaging, pricing, claims, positioning, and promotional activities.
- Conduct product benchmarking against local and international brands.
- Product Strategy & Portfolio Management:
- Prepare Product Pipeline based on Innovation, Renovation and Cost efficiency.
- Define product positioning, target consumers, product benefits, specifications, and competitive advantages.
- Monitor product performance and recommend corrective or improvement actions.
- Continuously improve product offerings based on feedback and research.
- Product Development and Formulation:
- Develop and Follow-up new food products from concept to commercialization.
- Perform sensory evaluations and optimize product formulations.
- Ensure product margins are inline with business objectives.
- Packaging Material Development:
- Execute the development of primary and secondary packaging Material and coordinate with R&D, QA, Production, Marketing and Supply Chain teams.
- Participate in packaging trials and commercial validation.
- Quality, Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure products meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Collaboration to QA and Compliance team BSTI, BFSA, Halal, FSSC and other Govt. & safety Certification issue.
- Cross Functional Work:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Production, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Store and Supply Chain Management.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Pilot Trial and Scale up:
- Execute laboratory-to-pilot and pilot-to-commercial scale-up.
- Prepare and monitor trial plans and trial reports.
- Work with Production and Engineering to resolve process limitations.
- Establish critical process parameters and product specifications.
- Ensure cost-effectiveness and scalability of new products.
- Documentation:
- Document and maintain detailed records of product development processes.
- Work for development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), specifications, and process documentation.
- Prepare & Develop the RM, PM and FG Specification.
- Stability Study:
- Prepare Stability Study Plan.
- Conduct and follow-up shelf-life studies and stability testing as per SSP.
- Others:
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Train and mentor junior staff members.
- Participate in industry conferences and trade shows.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging ingredients, and new technologies.

Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Nutrition, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or a relevant discipline.

- Age At least 22 years
- What We Are Looking For:
- 6–10 years of relevant experience in R&D/Product Development within Food, Beverage, FMCG, Nutrition or related industries and on similar products.
- Strong hands-on experience in formulation, product trials and commercial scale-up.
- Experience with fortified food, chocolate, spreads, powdered beverages or nutritional products will be an advantage.
- Strong understanding of food ingredients, processing, sensory evaluation, shelf life and product costing.
- A practical problem solver who can take an idea from concept → formulation → trial → scale-up → market-ready product.
- Strong ownership, analytical thinking, cross-functional collaboration and execution capability.
