Job Description / Responsibility
- Core Clinical & Procedural Responsibilities
- Critical Neonatal Care: Deliver expert, evidence-based management for extremely premature, low birth weight, and complex surgical neonates from admission through discharge.
- Delivery & Stabilization: Lead high-risk delivery attendances and execute immediate, advanced resuscitation and stabilization according to current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) guidelines.
- Advanced Ventilatory Support: Independently manage and troubleshoot invasive and non-invasive respiratory support, including conventional ventilation, High-Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV), CPAP, and HFNC.
- Invasive Procedure Mastery: Perform and supervise critical procedures, including Umbilical Venous/Arterial Catheterization (UVC/UAC), PICC line insertion, chest tube placement, and exchange transfusions.
- Point-of-Care Diagnostics: Interpret real-time diagnostic modalities, including Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), basic cranial ultrasounds, target neonatal echocardiography, and serial blood gases.
- Metabolic & Nutritional Management: Formulate precise fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base strategies, including the calculation of complex Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) and advanced enteral feeding protocols.
- Leadership, Quality, & Operations
- Team Supervision & Handovers: Direct and evaluate the clinical performance of residents, interns, and specialized nursing staff, ensuring seamless 24/7 care continuity via structured JCI-compliant handovers.
- Emergency Team Leadership: Act as the designated team leader during NICU emergencies, Code Blue responses, disaster situations, and specialized outbound neonatal transport operations.
- Resource & Bed Optimization: Partner with hospital administration to manage bed capacity, triage admissions, optimize biomedical equipment utilization, and streamline resource allocation.
- Accreditation & Safety Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to Joint Commission International (JCI) standards, International Patient Safety Goals (IPSGs), and rigorous infection control/antibiotic stewardship practices.
- Clinical Governance & QI: Lead departmental quality improvement (QI) initiatives, clinical audits, and multidisciplinary Mortality and Morbidity (M&M) reviews, participating in Root Cause Analyses (RCA) when required.
- Communication, Collaboration, & Academics
- Interdepartmental Liaison: Coordinate multi-system care pathways with Obstetrics, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Pediatric Surgery, Radiology, and other specialized multidisciplinary medical teams.
- Empathetic Family Counseling: Deliver compassionate, culturally sensitive updates and end-of-life counseling to families, ensuring robust informed consent and a family-centered care model.
- Bedside Teaching & Mentorship: Design and deliver clinical training, simulation-based emergency drills, and formal competency assessments for junior medical and nursing personnel.
- Documentation, Research & CME: Maintain flawless Electronic Medical Record (EMR) integrity while actively participating in clinical research, guideline development, and mandatory Continuous Medical Education (CME).
Educational Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine (MD)
- MBBS
- MD (Pediatrics) / FCPS (Pediatrics) / MRCPH / DCH

Additional Job Requirements
- Age 35 to 50 years
- 1. Advanced neonatal resuscitation and emergency stabilization as per NRP guidelines.
- 2. Management of critically ill neonates, including preterm and low birth weight infants.
- 3. Proficiency in mechanical ventilation, CPAP, HFNC, and respiratory support.
- 4. Competency in NICU procedures such as intubation, UVC/UAC, PICC line, and lumbar puncture.
- 5. Ability to interpret ABG reports, neonatal X-rays, ECGs, and laboratory investigations.
- 6. Expertise in neonatal fluid, electrolyte, medication, and nutrition management.
- 7. Strong knowledge of neonatal sepsis management and infection control practices.
- 8. Capability to lead and manage neonatal emergencies and Code Blue situations.
- 9. Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and clinical documentation.
- 10. Knowledge of patient safety standards, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
