Job Description / Responsibility
  • POSITION OVERVIEW
  • The Vice Chancellor serves as the University's principal executive and academic authority, entrusted with translating the institution's mission into measurable outcomes across academic, administrative, financial, and operational domains. The incumbent provides forward-looking leadership that is grounded in institutional values, responsive to the evolving landscape of higher education, and firmly anchored in the regulatory framework of the Private University Act, 2010. Operating at the intersection of governance and academic enterprise, the Vice Chancellor ensures that strategic objectives are pursued with rigour, resources are stewarded responsibly, and that faculty, students, and staff are empowered to excel. The role demands exceptional judgement, a strong commitment to ethical leadership, and the capacity to build trust across diverse stakeholder groups — from government bodies and international partners to students and local communities. The role requires driving high-quality teaching and impactful research while ensuring strong governance, financial sustainability, and regulatory compliance within the country’s higher education framework. A VC should foster an inclusive academic culture, promote innovation and digital transformation, and strengthen partnerships with industry, government, and international institutions to enhance graduate employability and research impact.   • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • 1. Strategic & Academic Leadership
  • Articulate and advance the University's mission, vision, and long-term institutional strategy, ensuring coherence between academic ambitions and operational capacity.
  • Taking leadership and working closely the Pro Vice Chancellor(s), Deans, Heads of Departments, Directors, and the broader academic administration, fostering a unified and high-performing academic team.
  • Champion excellence in teaching, learning, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and community engagement at all levels of the institution.
  • Lead academic planning, curriculum development, quality assurance, accreditation initiatives, and institutional benchmarking and ranking efforts.
  • Promote and deepen interdisciplinary collaboration across faculties, departments, and research centres to enhance the University's intellectual profile.
  • Ensure the growth of the Institution and number of students admissions.
  • Strong focus on impact beyond academia (industry, policy, society)
  • 2. Governance & Statutory Responsibilities
  • Chair and provide leadership to the Syndicate, Academic Council, and all other statutory bodies as prescribed by the University's Statutes and applicable law.
  • Oversee the Proctorial Body to maintain student discipline, campus safety, and an environment conducive to academic inquiry and personal development.
  • Ensure faithful implementation of decisions made by the Chancellor, Board of Trustees, and statutory committees, while preserving institutional integrity.
  • Maintain full compliance with the Private University Act, 2010, UGC regulations, Ministry of Education directives, University Statutes, Ordinances, and all applicable legal instruments.
  • Ensure transparency, accountability, and principled governance throughout the University's structure.
  • Ensure compliance with UGC quality assurance framework, National & international academic standards, promote research integrity, ethics, and academic freedom.
  • 3. Faculty & Staff Development
  • Lead end-to-end talent management for faculty and academic leaders, encompassing recruitment, induction, professional development, succession planning, and performance evaluation.
  • Foster continuous scholarly and professional growth through faculty training programmes, funded research participation, advanced studies, international collaboration, and conference engagement.
  • Cultivate an institutional ethos of academic excellence, innovation, collegiality, and ethical conduct among all faculty and staff.
  • 4. Financial & Administrative Leadership
  • Provide strategic direction over budgeting, financial sustainability, long-range institutional planning, infrastructure investment, and the equitable allocation of resources.
  • Ensure the development of efficient administrative systems and sound institutional risk management frameworks that support operational excellence.
  • Monitor and report on organisational performance, promoting data-informed decision-making across all academic and administrative functions.
  • Ensure transparency in Student Recruitment and Admissions procedures and disclose the accurate data to all key stakeholders.
  • Ensure Transparency in financial operations, compliance with audit and reporting requirements, and work with the Board of Trustees on long-term financial strategy.
  • 5. Student Affairs & Campus Life
  • Ensure the provision of a safe, inclusive, and student-centred learning environment that supports academic achievement, research involvement, and holistic personal development.
  • Oversee student welfare, counselling services, extracurricular programming, career development initiatives, and graduate employability outcomes.
  • Promote student discipline, civic responsibility, and an engaged campus life through the Proctorial Body and relevant student-facing support services.
  • Ensure fair admission processes aligned with national policies, student discipline and code of conduct enforcement and Issuance of degrees in compliance with UGC approval.
  • 6. Research, Innovation & International Engagement
  • Build and sustain a vibrant research culture through support for scholarly publications, externally funded projects, innovation initiatives, patent development, and consultancy activities.
  • Cultivate and formalise strategic partnerships with national and international universities, research institutions, industries, and development organisations.
  • Facilitate and expand international collaboration, faculty and student exchange programmes, and global academic engagement that enhances the University's stature.
  • 7. External Relations & Institutional Representation
  • Represent the University with authority before the Chancellor, University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Education, accreditation bodies, government agencies, professional organisations, industry, alumni networks, and international partners.
  • Develop and sustain strategic external alliances that strengthen the University's academic reputation, research capacity, and national and international visibility.
  • Serve as the University's principal spokesperson on academic and institutional affairs, projecting consistent and credible institutional identity.
  • 8. Additional Responsibilities
  • Undertake any further responsibilities assigned by the Chancellor, Board of Trustees, or other competent statutory authorities in accordance with applicable laws, University Statutes, and institutional policies.
  • Contribute to the national higher education discourse by participating in policy development, sector-level initiatives, and professional bodies as relevant.
