Job Description / Responsibility
- Background
- Swisscontact was established in 1959 as an independent foundation by notable figures from the worlds of commerce and science in Switzerland. It is exclusively involved in international development cooperation and has carried out its own and mandated projects since 1961. Based in Zurich, Swisscontact currently employs over 1,200 staff worldwide and manages 120 projects in 41 countries on behalf of public and private donors.
- Swisscontact Bangladesh is implementing initiatives focused on sustainable, climate-resilient, and low-carbon construction solutions in Bangladesh. These initiatives include piloting innovative construction systems, supporting technical validation and demonstration activities, strengthening local construction ecosystems, and facilitating knowledge transfer related to affordable and resilient housing solutions.
- Swisscontact Bangladesh seeks qualified technical consultant(s) for technical supervision, structural design coordination, and Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) support for an ongoing sustainable construction initiative.
- Assignment Duration: The duration of the assignment will be until February 2027, aligned with project implementation timelines. The person will be engaged on a rolling and need-based basis depending on project requirements, technical priorities, and construction schedules. Subject to the interest of the selected consultant, a fixed-term contract may also be considered.
- Frequent travel to field locations and construction sites is expected.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor in Engineering (BEngg)
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or related discipline.
Additional Job Requirements
- Experience in structural design, construction supervision, or QA/QC.
- Experience with low-cost housing, rural housing, resilient construction, bamboo/ timber/ lightweight structures, or non-standard building systems.
- Experience with bamboo, timber, ferrocement, prefabricated panels, disaster-resilient housing, or climate-resilient construction will be considered a strong advantage.
- Familiarity with BNBC and Bangladesh construction approval processes.
- Ability to review engineering drawings, structural details, specifications, and site implementation quality.
- Experience working with government, contractors, fabricators, or development projects will be an advantage.
