Railway Track Project Engineer - -Mechanical

Job Description / Responsibility
  • Supervise and manage railway track construction, renewal, rehabilitation, and maintenance works in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, and project schedules.
  • Coordinate track laying activities including rail installation, sleeper placement, ballast spreading, tamping, alignment, and turnout installation.
  • Ensure execution of works complies with railway standards, contract specifications, approved method statements, and safety regulations.
  • Review project drawings, construction methodologies, work programs, and material requirements before execution.
  • Monitor track geometry parameters such as gauge, can’t, alignment, cross-level, and longitudinal level to ensure operational safety and quality compliance.
  • Supervise rail welding activities including thermit welding and flash butt welding, ensuring compliance with approved procedures and quality standards.
  • Coordinate inspection and testing activities for rails, sleepers, ballast, fastening systems, weld joints, and track components.
  • Ensure the proper utilization of manpower, machinery, materials, and equipment to execute the project efficiently.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports and maintain records of site activities, work completion, and resource deployment.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors regarding project progress, inspections, technical issues, and approvals.
  • Assist in the preparation of work schedules, project planning, and monitoring of construction progress against targets.
  • Verify site measurements, executed quantities, and contractor billing as per approved BOQ and contract requirements.
  • Support preparation of variation orders, additional work estimates, and material reconciliation reports.
  • Ensure compliance with QA/QC procedures and maintain proper project documentation including inspection reports, test records, and as-built drawings.
  • Identify technical issues, site constraints, and construction risks, and provide practical engineering solutions.
  • Monitor the implementation of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements and railway operational safety standards on site.
  • Participate in technical meetings, coordination meetings, audits, and project review sessions.
  • Assist in testing, commissioning, trial runs, and final handover of railway track systems.

Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Diploma in Engineering in Mechanical Engineering
Experience Requirements
  • 8 to 10 years

  • Proficiency in MS Project, Primavera, AutoCAD & MS Excel
