Job Description / Responsibility
- The Material Development & Localization Manager will be responsible for driving material development and localization initiatives to optimize cost, reduce lead time, and support business sustainability objectives. The role will focus on developing, duplicating, sourcing, and localizing footwear materials in alignment with global standards and local business requirements.
- The incumbent will work closely with Design, Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, and Supplier teams to ensure materials meet performance, quality, cost, sustainability, and timeline expectations.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute material localization strategies in coordination with global and local stakeholders
- Develop, duplicate, source, and localize materials in line with the TCR calendar
- Build and maintain a localized material library for footwear products
- Lead development and sourcing of upper materials, lining, outsole, trims, compounds, packaging, and sustainable materials
- Conduct supplier research and evaluation to ensure best value, quality, and delivery performance
- Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth material development and execution
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential suppliers
- Negotiate commercial terms, contracts, pricing, and service agreements with suppliers
- Drive cost optimization and supplier performance improvement initiatives
- Conduct value analysis and cost-saving reviews for existing materials and supplier arrangements
- Monitor material quality, testing, compliance, and sustainability standards
- Analyze spending, supplier performance, and sourcing data; prepare reports and recommendations
- Evaluate supplier quotations and technical proposals based on commercial and technical feasibility
- Ensure suppliers understand and align with organizational business objectives and expectations
- CORE COMPETENCIES:
- Material Development & Duplication:
- Very good understanding of footwear material sourcing footprint in global and Bangladesh market.
- Take care of seasonal footwear material development aligned with design and business requirements.
- Introduce innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective materials.
- Develop leather, synthetic, textile, mesh, foam, rubber, EVA, TPU, and recycled material options in line with LAB & QC testing parameter.
- Collaborate with Product development, LAB, QC for material development, sample, get those approved.
- Fast-paced product development environment
- Costing & Commercialization
- Support value engineering initiatives to ensure effective and desire costing of material.
- Ensure material readiness for commercialization and mass production.
- Drive cost optimization without compromising product quality and performance.
- Operating Discipline:
- Receive samples from local and overseas suppliers to deliver.
- Record, label, and track all incoming samples and swatches.
- Submit samples Product Development, and Lab-QC.
- Maintain sample records, logs, to track and trace usage by of material by PD & test report from PD.
- Arrange and organize swatches for material development activities.
- Follow up with suppliers for sample requests, revisions, and resubmissions.
- Ensured proper storage, traceability, and documentation of all samples

Educational Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Footwear Engineering
- Master of Science (MSc) in Footwear Engineering
- Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
- Master of Business Management (MBM)
- Candidates having educational qualification in BSC/MSC in footwear engineering or BBA/MBA or Masters or Supply Chain Professional certification are encouraged to apply.
Experience Requirements
- At least 7 years
- The applicants should have experience in the following business area(s): Manufacturing (FMCG), Multinational Companies, Tannery/Footwear
Additional Job Requirements
- Proven experience in material development, sourcing, localization, or procurement within footwear, apparel, or manufacturing industries.
- Strong understanding of footwear materials, supplier management, and product development processes.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of sustainable materials and localization strategies will be an added advantage.
