Job Description / Responsibility
- Position Summary:
- The Head of Mechanical Maintenance will be responsible for overseeing and managing the mechanical maintenance department of a garments manufacturing facility. The role involves ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of all mechanical systems and equipment in the factory. The candidate will lead a team of maintenance engineers and technicians to ensure that all machinery is maintained to the highest standards, minimizing downtime and maximizing production efficiency.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning & Leadership:
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies to ensure optimal performance of all mechanical equipment in the factory.
- Lead, train, and motivate a team of mechanical maintenance engineers and technicians.
- Set goals and KPIs for the maintenance team to ensure high levels of productivity and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide leadership and guidance on troubleshooting complex mechanical issues.
- Develop and manage the mechanical maintenance budget.
- Maintenance Management:
- Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs for machinery and mechanical systems, including sewing machines, fabric processing equipment, and other mechanical tools.
- Ensure that maintenance schedules are strictly adhered to in order to minimize equipment downtime.
- Supervise emergency breakdowns and provide quick solutions to mechanical problems during production.
- Evaluate and monitor the condition of equipment, perform regular inspections, and arrange for repairs and replacements as needed.
- Analyze performance data and identify opportunities for improving mechanical system performance and reliability.
- Team Management:
- Manage the mechanical maintenance team, including engineers, technicians, and support staff.
- Allocate tasks based on team skills, workload, and project priorities.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide training, and foster skill development within the team.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Equipment and Spare Parts Management:
- Ensure that adequate spare parts are available and effectively managed to minimize downtime.
- Maintain proper documentation of spare parts inventory, equipment maintenance records, and work orders.
- Liaise with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery and quality of spare parts and equipment.
- Health, Safety, and Compliance:
- Ensure all mechanical maintenance work complies with factory safety policies and government regulations.
- Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and take corrective actions.
- Promote a safe working environment by enforcing strict adherence to health and safety standards.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs, and replacements.
- Prepare regular reports for senior management, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs), maintenance activities, and any major issues.
- Use computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track maintenance activities and manage maintenance schedules.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Experience Requirements
- 10 to 12 years

Additional Job Requirements
- Minimum 10-12 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role in a garment or textile factory.
- In-depth knowledge of garment factory machinery, including sewing machines, fabric processing equipment, and other mechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of mechanical troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair techniques.
- Proficiency in maintenance management software (CMMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulatory requirements in industrial settings
